Turtle Tracking Info: What I Do and How I Do It
You may have come to this site and wondered, "What is this person doing?" Well, due to my fondness of turtles, I decided to do a little project with them (since I live near a lake). In this project, which has been going on since 1997, I catch turtles from the lake (mainly baby ones), and I apply a fabric paint streak or dot that should be easy to see through the water. This does not harm the turtles in any way. Then, I write a data sheet about each turtle while I let the fabric paint on them dry. Finally, I release them, and watch the lake every day to see if I see them. If I see one, I mark it on a map. If I see one more than once in a different spot, I mark that on a map and connect it to the first sighting, so I have some sort of idea where this turtle has been going. It may sound kinda complicated, but it's FUN, and I love it so much that it was my science project for 1999! :) So, anyway, please click on the turtle pictures below for more information! :)
